The Department of Philosophy has 3 faculty members – 2 Assistant Professors and 1 State-Aided College Teacher (SACT).

It currently offers the following Undergraduate Courses:

(i) 3-Year Degree / 4-Year Honours under the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP) as per National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 and

(ii) 3-Year Honours Course (July 2019-June 2023) under the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS)

UNDERGRADUATE COURSES:

 

1. 3-Year Degree / 4-Year Honours in Philosophy – Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP) as per National Education Policy (NEP), 2020

The B.A. 3-Year Degree / 4-Year Honours in Philosophy is spread over 6 & 8 Semesters respectively.

 

2. (i) 3-Year Honours in Philosophy – Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) 

The B.A. Honours Course in English CBCS Syllabus is spread over 6 Semesters and comprises the following components:

  1. Core/Discipline Core = C (also called DC)
  2. Ability Enhancement Compulsory = AEC
  3. Skill Enhancement Course = SEC
  4. Generic Elective = GE
  5. Discipline-Specific Elective = DSE

At the end of each semester, students are evaluated on a total of 50 marks for EACH PAPER (Internal Assessment = 10; Tutorial = 08; End Semester Exam = 32).

 

(ii) Philosophy (General) – Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) 

In addition to Compulsory courses (Language Cores and Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses) a student has to select two disciplines as main disciplines (E.g., Discipline -A & Discipline-B) and one discipline as Generic Elective (GE)(Discipline-C).

At the end of each semester, students are evaluated on a total of 50 marks for EACH PAPER (Internal Assessment = 10; Tutorial = 08; End Semester Exam = 32).

 

 

 

Name of the Add-on Course: Literature and Ethical Decision Making: An Introduction

Offered jointly by the Departments of ENGLISH & PHILOSOPHY

Duration: 30 hours (1 Dec. – 18 Dec)

 

The Course is JOINTLY coordinated by:

Dr. Satarupa Sinha Roy (Dpt. Of English) & Shri Kaleswar Barman (Dpt. of Philosophy)

 

Course Instructors: Dr. Satarupa Sinha Roy (Eng), Shri Kaleswar Barman (Philo), Shri Babulal Murmu (Eng), Shri Swapan Saha (Philo), & Smt. Lovely Bosu (Philo)

 

Learning Objectives:

The primary objective of this interdisciplinary add-on course is to help build a robust foundation for independent critical thinking around common ethical questions and decision points and to provide participants (young adults) with social and emotional learning.

 

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • integrate classroom learning with bigger and more general life issues
  • make more ethically-informed choices
  • have a firmer grasp over the rationale of decision making and apply the knowledge in everyday contexts become more aware, empathetic, conscientious, and responsible citizens

Eligibility:

Any student currently enrolled in an Undergraduate Course (3 Year-Honours/ General/ 4 Year-Degree) in Dewan Abdul Gani College is eligible take this course.

Fee Structure:

This course is offered free of cost to all enrolled students.

Certificate details:

Upon successful completion of the course, a Certificate of Completion issued by Dewan Abdul Gani College will be given to each participant.
