The Department of Bengali was set up in 1994.

 

Currently, the Department of Bengali offers the following Undergraduate Courses:

 

(i) 3-Year Degree / 4-Year Honours under the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP) as per National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 and

 

(ii) 3-Year Honours Course (July 2019-June 2023)

 

Faculty members are actively involved in  research, publishing regularly in several reputed academic journals  in addition to presenting papers in national and international seminars and conferences.

UNDERGRADUATE COURSES:

 

1. 3-Year Degree / 4-Year Honours in Bengali – Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP) as per National Education Policy (NEP), 2020

The B.A. 3-Year Degree / 4-Year Honours in Bengali is spread over 6 & 8 Semesters respectively.

 

2. (i) Bengali (Honours) – CBCS (Choice-Based Credit System) 

The B.A. Honours Course in Bengali CBCS Syllabus is spread over 6 Semesters and comprises the following components:

  1. Core/Discipline Core = C (also called DC)
  2. Ability Enhancement Compulsory = AEC
  3. Skill Enhancement Course = SEC
  4. Generic Elective = GE
  5. Discipline-Specific Elective = DSE

At the end of each semester, students are evaluated on a total of 50 marks for EACH PAPER (Internal Assessment = 10; Tutorial = 08; End Semester Exam = 32).

 

(ii) Bengali (General) – CBCS (Choice-Based Credit System) 

In addition to Compulsory courses (Language Cores and Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses) a student has to select two disciplines as main disciplines (E.g., Discipline -A & Discipline-B) and one discipline as Generic Elective (GE)(Discipline-C).

At the end of each semester, students are evaluated on a total of 50 marks for EACH PAPER (Internal Assessment = 10; Tutorial = 08; End Semester Exam = 32).

What are Add-on Courses?

Add-on courses are short-term courses offered by the institution. The minimum duration of these courses is 30 hours. These courses are usually offered as certificate courses to provide students with additional knowledge and information which are relevant to their respective fields of study. Some of the Add-on courses offered by the various departments of the college are multidisciplinary in nature and are focused on ability and skill enhancement of students.

2. Add on courses enhance students’ teamwork, communication skills and problem solving abilities.
